MARY SOLIC
1931 - 2009
Maria “Mary” Solic, beloved wife of Ivan Solic, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in Taber on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the age of 77 years.
Besides her loving husband Ivan, Mary is survived by her children, Billy (Penny) Sekura of Claresholm and his son Matthew; Steve Solic of Taber; Rose Mary Marsh of Taber; Linda (Kelly) Hirney of Taber and their sons Brady & Brendon. She is also survived by her sister Kay Adams of Concordia, Kansas; step-brother George Wirth of Burlington, Ontario; in-laws Phyllis Hirney, Doris Standing and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her mother Katherina Wirth and her step father, Stephen Wirth.
Mary was born in Sokolovac, Yugoslavia on July 9, 1931. She immigrated to Canada in 1949 with her family to Taber. She worked on several farms with her parents. On December 10, 1955 she married Ivan Solic and started a family.
Mary enjoyed cooking, keeping up the house and growing her garden. She enjoyed watching the afternoon “soaps”. Most important to her was her family and loved birthdays and holidays especially with her grandchildren.
Due to health issues, Mary moved to Taber’s Long Term Care facility in November 2006 where she resided until the time of her passing. She was well liked by the staff and residents there and felt at home.
Relatives and friends are invited to prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 7:00 P.M.
A private family Burial Service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden on Saturday, May 30, 2009.
