BRUCE ROBINSON

1914 - 2007

Lester Bruce Robinson of Lethbridge, passed away at the Raymond Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the age of 92 years. He was predeceased by his first wife Marion and his second wife Bernadette.
Bruce was born in Burdett, Alberta on May 26, 1914, the son of Gilbert and Katherine Robinson. He received his schooling in Burdett.  His mother passed away when he was two and his father fifteen years later. Following his father’s death he assumed the handyman role of his father. Not only did he assume some of his father’s positions in the community but he also took over his father’s job of shoe repair man and of town barber. Bruce barbered in the village of Burdett for many years. He began farming in 1935 and that same year married Marion Evelyn Lyons. Bruce was active in the numerous accomplishments of the Community of Burdett. He was instrumental in the formation and building of the Burdett Curling Club, was foreman of the Burdett Centennial Hall and Chairman of the Boy Scout Association. He also held numerous positions in the Burdett United Church and was a member of the Masons. Marion predeceased him in 1975 and on May 28, 1977 he married Bernadette Hudson Calder. Following his marriage to Bernadette, they retired from farming and later moved to Lethbridge. Bernadette predeceased him in 1996.
Bruce is survived by his children; Richard (Caroline) of Raymond and their children Heather, Holly, Myrna, Richard, Douglas, Allan and Nicholas; Barbara (Jim) Appleton of Edmonton and children Cheryl, Suzanne and Janet and their father Milton McCrea; Lyle (Elaine) of Raymond and their children Kevin, Laurie, Leanne, Gregory and Cynthia; Lloyd (Val) of Medicine Hat and their children Linda and Michael and Jody (Sandra) and children Joel and Wendy and their mother Dale Robinson; stepson Doug (Bernice) Calder of Castlegar and their children Kimberlee, Ryan, Stacie and Kristi; stepdaughter Bette (Brian) Welke of Kelowna and their children Leigh Anne (Tom) and Dean (Annette); forty four great grandchildren and also by a dear friend Ella Stabner.  He was predeceased by his parents Gilbert and Katherine and siblings Ada, John, Edna, Glen, Hubert and George; grandchildren Kevin and Leanne and stepson Monte Calder.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, January 12, 2007 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Burdett United Church, Burdett on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. Interment to follow in the Burdett Community Cemetery.
