JIM REID
1916 - 2007
James Clealand Reid of Taber, beloved husband of the late Shirley Reid, went to be with our Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the age of 90 years.
Jim is survived by three children Bob (Elvina) Parker of Coaldale, Laurie (Blair) Lowry of Taber and Jim (Susan) Reid of Vauxhall; grandchildren Kendra (Ryan) Shannon, Dean and Daryl Parker, Blaine and Blake Lowry and Carly Reid. He is also survived by his sister Mary (Doug) Stevenson of Vauxhall, sister-in-law Joyce (Harry) Wolosuk of Lethbridge and brother-in-law Jack (Donna) Dayton of Victoria.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley in 2002.
Jim was born in Lethbridge on September 17, 1916 the son of Jack & Mary Reid. In 1927 he moved to Vauxhall from Grassy Lake with his family. He attended the Kinlock School and later the Vauxhall School. Jim attended the Olds School of Agriculture, graduating in 1936. He married Shirley Parker (nee Dayton) in 1966 and lived on the farm near Vauxhall where he farmed until 1998 when they moved to Taber.
His community of Vauxhall was very important to him and he gave back to it by being a very active member of the Lions Club, curling club and golf club. He was president of the Ag Society for fifteen years and organized numerous Agricultural Fairs. He also served in many capacities with Parkview United Church. After moving to Taber he became a very avid bowler and loved the social aspect of the seniors league. He also continued his lifelong love of reading. Family and friends were dear to him and he took special pride in his children and grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Aldeen McKay officiating. Interment to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in James’ name may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice.
