Iola was the last living family member of Joseph and Elleanor Doney. She was born October 17, 1909 in Frankburg, Alberta. She was raised on the Doney farm in Brant, Alberta, where she rode a horse to school. Iola took piano lessons and was fortunate enough to get a year of Normal School which qualified her to become a teacher. It was during her high school years that Iola and Ben’s relationship developed. Because of the depression era their courtship lasted for several years. Finally, on January 2, 1935, they were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They moved to Barnwell in July 1937 and lived there until Ben’s passing. Iola remaind in Barnwell until June 1995 when she moved into the Clearview Lodge in Taber. She spent several years there until she was hospitalized and transferred to Continuing Care. She never complained and always had a smile on her face. Iola will best be remembered for her many tireless hours she freely gave to anyone wanting accompaniment for a wedding, funeral, social, church function or festival. She was always willing to sit down and play for anyone. Music was always a part of her home. She also gave unselfish service through many years of teaching her young students in grade three with a devotion and loyalty few would match.
