JOYCE PALMER

1925 - 2009

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joyce Palmer (nee Harris), passed away in Lethbridge on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the age of 84 years. Joyce was born on May 27, 1925 to Ivan Evans Harris and Maude Tufts Harris. She married Donald L. Porter on March 27, 1946 and they were blessed with seven children. Craig (Nancy) Porter of Las Vegas, Nevada, Logan (Jane) Porter of Barnwell, Shanon (Ross)  Anderson of Taber, infant child, Afton (Dale) George of Las Vegas, Nevada, Charmaine (Barry) Humphrey of Redcliff and Ashlee Atkins of Maricopa, Arizona; twenty two grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Joyce is also survived by the children and spouses of Bill Streibel and the children and spouses of Delbert Palmer; her siblings Bernarr (Inez) Harris, Garth (Betty) Harris, NaVee (Curtis) Wynder and Gary (Evelyn) Harris as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Ivan and Maude; husbands Donald L. Porter, Bill Streibel and Delbert Palmer; an infant son and a grandson Donald J. Porter. Joyce was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Don obtained land through the Veterans Land Act and raised their family north of Fincastle on this homestead. She was in the Navy during the Second World War. Joyce served three missions for the Church, one to London, England and two to Jamaica. She lived and worked in Vernon, British Columbia and later became a nanny in Pennsylvania for two years. Joyce was a sports enthusiast and was active in a variety of sports in her early years. Mom enjoyed quilting, putting together jigsaw puzzles and travelling to visit her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, July 24, 2009 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, July 25, 2009 between 11:00 A.M. and 11:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lethbridge East Stake, 4105 Forestry Avenue South, Lethbridge on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 12:00 P.M with Bishop Douglas Wilde conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
