JIM LONGACRE
1924 - 2004
Mr. Jim Longacre of Taber, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Florette (Mary) Longacre, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the age of 79 years.
Jim was born and raised on the family farm near Retlaw where he and his brothers and sisters survived the dirty thirties. After working on the west coast at his brothers logging company, he came back to Alberta to work at the coal mine in Shaughnessy. A mine cave in there nearly took his life, and after months of rehab at the Galt Hospital, he went back to farming. In 1967 Jim left the farm and moved his family to Lethbridge where he worked as a welder at Edwards Rod Weeder, Noble Blade, Prebuilt Industries and finally Dresser Clark (Rand) until his retirement in 1989. Jim loved life and music and for many years people in the community halls all over southern Alberta danced to the Longacre orchestra.
Predeceased by his infant daughter Karen and wife Florette, Jim is survived by his sons Wade (Liz) and Keith (Rita) and daughter Faye, as well as eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel (5006-48 Ave.) Taber on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Mike Whalen officiating. Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden.
