BOB LEWIS

1923 - 2008

Robert McKay Lewis of Taber, passed away after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease early Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the age of 85 years.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Margaret; their three children Laura (Bill) Tempany of Calgary, Tom (Marcella) Lewis of Keg River, Alberta and Tim (Debbie) Lewis of Taber; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and his sister Margaret (Ross) McKibben of Taber.
Bob was born in Knee Path (now Cranford), Alberta on May 17, 1923 and lived there, except for postings during the war, until moving into Taber from the farm five years ago. Bob was a great farmer, auto restorer, aircraft builder, enthusiast and pilot and worked on his hobbies at the farm up until a couple of years ago. During the war Bob was posted at various sites across the prairies and was an airframe mechanic responsible for repair and maintenance of aircraft and made many lifetime friends during his time in the Airforce. Bob was an active participant in the Royal Canadian Legion for many years and spent many a fun time on Saturday nights dancing up a storm with his beloved Marg. Bob was a very strong person in every regard and accomplished much during his 85 years. He built a large irrigation farm, raised three strong children and built many of the toys he enjoyed sharing with his family so much. From the gyrocopter, speed boats and aircraft to most of the furniture in their original home, nothing was daunting to Bob when something needed to be done. Bob was respected in the community for his helpful nature, fun loving approach to life and always had time to stop for coffee or libation's when friends dropped in. Bob will be missed by all who knew him and his family and extended family will miss the sage advice and dry wit we all grew to know and love.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, August 14, 2008 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber, on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Burial to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Bob’s name can me made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion in Taber, 5205 - 48 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1S8. As a lifelong member, Bob always made time to do chores required by the Legion.
