JOHN KAST
1915 - 2006
John Kast, of Grassy Lake, beloved husband of the late Lyla Kast, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2006 in the Taber Hospital, at the age of 91 years.
John was born April 26, 1915, on the homestead at Turin, to Will and Lucy Kast. John grew up in Lethbridge and married Lyla Peterson in 1939. They moved around the first few years, living in or near Lethbridge, Warner, Hussar and Sunnyside. John enlisted in the army in 1943, and served in Europe until the end of WWII. In the spring of 1954, John and Lyla moved to a farm at Grassy Lake, where they spent the rest of their lives. John has been an active member of the Grassy Lake Senior Citizens Society since the society was founded.
John is survived by his son Lawrence (Sherry) of Grassy Lake, and his daughter-in-law Wendy Kast of Lethbridge; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; Lori and Mark Lohner, (Jessica, Matthew, Courtney and Tamara); Alan and Lue Kast (Wade); Douglas and Nola Kast (Keylee and Kyle); Russell and Renee Kast; Debora and Terry Rotenburger (Nickolas and Samantha); and Erin and Ken Scott (Leesha and Andrew). John is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Madeline Kast, Fay Wardman, Rita Peterson and Audrey (Walt) Melvin.
He was predeceased by his beloved Lyla, his son Merlyn, brothers Harold, Floyd and Clarence Kast and Tom Wardman, his sister Violet Williams, as well as his parents Will Kast and Lucy and Frank Wardman.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. Interment to follow at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake.
