SINA KEMPE
1929 - 2007
On the morning of January 14, 2007, our heavenly Father took back to Himself our devoted mom, grandmother (oma) and great grandmother, Geziena (Sina) Kempe, the beloved wife of the late Dick Kempe of Taber, at the age of 77 years.
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress. I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2
Geziena, the eldest child of Hendrik and Willemina Wikkerink, was born in the Netherlands on September 23, 1929. She married Dick Kempe on June 26, 1952. In 1954, they immigrated to Taber. In 1955 they moved to the Vancouver area where they spent thirteen years before returning to Taber in 1968.
Geziena’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very dear to her and she spent a lot of time with them. She also played the role of “oma” to many others. She made every effort to attend weddings, reunions and other special celebrations for family and friends. Geziena donated much of her time and energy to church and community activities over the years. She was a social person and enjoyed meeting with friends over a cup of coffee or for a meal.
Geziena is survived by her five children, Wilma (Garth) Bekkering of Taber, Henry (Pearl) Kempe of Grassy Lake, Jack (Annette) Kempe of Lethbridge, Peter (Pat) Kempe of Taber, and Ina (James) Wall of Calgary; sixteen grandchildren, Howard (Kathy) Bekkering, Heather (Dan) Groenenboom, Jennifer (Steve) Meggison and Leanne Bekkering (Kirk); Joshua (Ranae), Daniel, Sarita Kempe (James) and Gina Kempe; Stacey, Janine, Jason and Shawn Kempe; Dennis, Eric, Matthew and Stephennie Kempe; ten great grandchildren, Tavia, Akeda, Brook-lyn and Haley Bekkering; Brooke, Kasey and Jordan Groenenboom; Kyla and Zachary Meggison and Jeremy Kempe. She is also survived by ten siblings, Lena (Hans) Visser, Hank (Janny) Wikkerink, John (Stella) Wikkerink, Alice (Liekel) Van Huizen, Gerry (Gertie) Wikkerink, Bill (Carol) Wikkerink, Joe (Trudy) Wikkerink, Garry (Grace) Wikkerink, Willy (Andy) Renema, Trix (Rick) Esselink as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband D.J. (Dick) Kempe in 1988, her parents Hendrik Wikkerink in 1967 and Willemina Wikkerink in 2000, brother Albert Wikkerink in 1965, and by an infant brother and an infant sister.
