Rose Roll

1968 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that the family of Rose Irene Roll, share her passing on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the young age of 56 years. Rose fought hard in her battle but passed away peacefully in Lethbridge, with her beloved family at her side.

All who knew and loved Rose are invited to attend a celebration of life service at the Evangelical Free Church, 5431 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 1:00 P.M.

Those who are unable to attend and wish to view the service online may do so by clicking on the livestream link that will be available on this page at 12:45 P.M. on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Barring any technical difficulties, the livestream will begin at 1:00 P.M.

Besides Kevin, her husband of nearly thirty five years, Rose is survived by their son Jordan Roll of Taber, their daughter Miranda Roll (Cameron Nicoll) of Cochrane and by her mother Margaret Rose Skretting of Taber. She will forever be lovingly remembered by her nephews Brandon Dalton (Jaylene Rabb) and Gunner Skretting and nieces Kelsey Dalton and Trinity Kopp and by her sister Crystal Skretting (Bert Toma). She was loved by all her extended family and will be especially missed by her “sisterhood” she shared with her cousins Sherry, Bev, Barb and Pam.

She was predeceased by her father Harold “Sub” Skretting, her brother Carl Leslie Skretting as well as by her maternal and paternal grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rose was a beautiful blue eyed baby born on July 23, 1968 to Margaret and Sub Skretting. She grew up on the family farms at Bow City and Circle Hill before moving to the acreage north of Vauxhall. These early years were spent raising Cain with Crystal and Leslie and her many nearby cousins. She graduated from Vauxhall Jr./Sr. High School and then studied Child and Youth Care at Lethbridge College. She and Sherry roomed together in Lethbridge leading to more hell raising and the odd spat!

In the mid to late eighties, slow-pitch was a very popular sport! Rose was invited by her pals Heather and Kelvin Wright and Heather’s sister Colleen Broderson to play on a team comprised of players from both Hays and Vauxhall. One of the players on that team was a young rogue named Kevin from Hays who was quickly smitten with the blonde, blue eyed beauty, Rose. One year later they became engaged at a slow-pitch tournament in Hays. Married on April 21,1990, the newlyweds started a life together farming at Hays. Their family was completed with the additions of Jordan born in 1991 and Miranda in 1994. In addition to being a busy, loving mom and helping run the farm, Rose worked at Vauxhall Meat and Sausage and then at the Hays, Vauxhall and Taber Schools in the Early Childhood Programs as an Assistant and as an Educator, developing many close friendships along the way.

Rose was an incredible woman who touched so many lives. She lived life to the fullest and loved with all her heart. Three of her biggest loves were her “boys”, first was Scooter and then after his passing came two little dogs, Beans and Eddie who spent every single minute with her curled up on her lap or following her around the house. They were the best therapy, especially when she was sick.

Rose also had such a special way with kids, and as “Mrs. Roll”, she always went the extra mile to help her students learn, laugh and feel supported. Rose spent the last fifteen years as a dedicated volunteer first responder, many years as an Emergency Medical Responder on the Vauxhall ambulance and even more years as a proud member of the Hays Fire Department and later the Taber Fire Department. She loved being involved in the community, giving back, learning new skills and some of her absolute favourite people were those she served with.

Being at home with her family and pets was Rose’s favourite place to be. So many laughs were shared over card games, craft nights or just being together. Rose’s other happy place was in the mountains. Whether she was kicking back at the campsite with a cold beverage, ripping around on her bike, hiking the trails hoping to see a bear, or floating on her paddleboard on the lake, she was at peace.

As Rose would say, “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”. Rest easy and well Rose, we’ll take it from here.
