Harold Skretting

1945 - 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold “Sub” Leslie Skretting, beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and more. He passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in Taber on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the age of 79 years.

The celebration of Sub’s life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 5205 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday December 20, 2024 at 1:00 P.M.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of fifty nine years, Margaret Skretting; daughter’s Rose (Kevin) Roll of Taber and Crystal (Bert) Toma of Redcliff; grandchildren Jordan Roll, Miranda Roll (Cameron Nicoll), Brandon Dalton (Jaylene Rabb), Kelsey Dalton, Gunner Skretting and Trinity Kopp; great granddaughter Nataya Dalton.

He was predeceased by his son Carl Leslie Skretting; parent’s Harold and Mildred Skretting (née Orsten), as well as numerous friends and extended family members.

Sub was born in Lethbridge on February 5, 1945 and went to school in Circle Hill. From a young age he enjoyed farming alongside his dad and brothers in Bow City and Enchant. He married Margaret Crowson in 1965 and together they had three wonderful children who they raised in the Bow City and Vauxhall areas.

Sub was a hard-working man who worked as a heavy equipment operator, farmer and a custodian at the Vauxhall High School alongside Margaret. He kept busy with extra positions within irrigation, general maintenance and helping out on his good friend’s farm. Together Sub and Margaret retired in 2015. He took great pride in keeping his truck, home and yard well-kept and tidy. Sub enjoyed hunting, fishing/ice-fishing, camping and quadding. He enjoyed the little things like growing a few vegetables in the garden, watching playoff hockey games and rodeo events. Most of all, he loved his family. His children, grandchildren and great granddaughter were very special to him. He loved the stories, laughter, pranks and cooking up a feast for everyone alongside his wife.

Sub was often quiet, but witty, had a good sense of humour, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Although appearing tough on the outside, he was kind and caring. He became the best caregiver to his wife Margaret, especially in the last year and a half of his life as they faced new challenges together. He will always be remembered and forever be missed.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Sub’s name may be made directly to Parkinson Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, Ontario M2P 2A9 www.parkinson.ca.
