David Derksen

1931 - 2024

David W. Derksen, beloved husband of Betty Derksen, passed away peacefully in Taber on Monday, October 14, 2024 at the age of 93 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, October 17, 2024 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Taber Evangelical Church (formerly the Evangelical Mennonite Church), 5001 - 64 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden. 

Those who are unable to attend and wish to view the service online may do so by visiting David’s obituary page on our website and clicking on the livestream link that will be available at 12:45 P.M. on Friday, October 18, 2024. Barring any technical difficulties, the livestream will begin at 1:00 P.M.

David is survived by his wife of sixty seven years, Betty Derksen (née Wall); their children Lynda (Richard) Bergen of Coaldale, Jim (Lorna) Derksen of Taber, Daniel Derksen (Senta Miller) of Lethbridge and Jocelyn (Garth) Svensen of Holden; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Henry (Linda) Derksen and numerous other family members.

He was predeceased by his infant son Gerald Derksen; grandson Jeremy Bergen; parents Anna and Wilhelm Derksen; siblings John, Eva, Peter, Bill and infant sister Anna.

David was born on August 18, 1931, to Anna (née Zacharias) and Wilhelm Derksen in the hamlet of Blumenthal, near Hague, Saskatchewan.
