Bonnie Lynn Helmer, passed away in Taber on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the age of 73 years.

The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with Life Celebrant Shelly Bassett officiating.

Bonnie is survived by a large and loving family including her son Jason (Bonnie) Melquist of Taber and their children Jesse Bulman and his daughter Sierra and KoLyn (Lakyn) Melquist (their daughter Arya); daughter Christine Melquist (Nathan) of Raymond and their children Megan Miller (her children Zaynah, Skotia and Crimson) and Eric (Dessiree) Miller (their children Raelynn, Caydance and Arrow); son Aaron (Andrea) Melquist of Claresholm and their family Tristen Butler, Bailey Melquist (her children Sofie, Ryker and Keaton), Mackenzie (Casey) Rasmussen (their children Maizey, Phoenix, Memphis, Ivey, Ezmeray and great grandchild number seventeen). She is also survived by her sister Alma (Lorne) Pezderic and their family, brother Dwayne (Beatrice) Johnson and their family as well as by too many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, who loved her greatly and miss her already.

She was predeceased by her parents Melvin and Nellie Johnson; brothers John Johnson, Frank Johnson and Melvin Johnson; sisters Grace Miller, Yvonne Turton, Myrtle Norgard, Pansy Cole and Marie Johnson.

Bonnie was born in Consort on February 23, 1951 to Melvin and Nellie Johnson. She grew up as the youngest of eleven kids. When she married she became Bonnie Melquist and later remarried to be known as Bonnie Helmer. Bonnie had many endeavors including operating the concession at the Claresholm Agriplex and owning her restaurant in the Bell Hotel. Her greatest accomplishment was going back to school to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked in several different hospitals including Claresholm and the Taber Hospital, where she retired. Bonnie loved coffee, crime shows, VLTs, crossword puzzles and even tried bungee jumping. She was full of surprises.
