Pete Lenz

1941 - 2024

Peter Michael Lenz of Taber, known as a devoted husband, father, papa, friend and teacher, joined his son Mark on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the age of 994 months (82 years).

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 4:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. A private burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

He and his beloved wife June, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. Their life together was full of adventures, beginning with a bold move from Montana to Barrhead right after their wedding, and then settling in Taber, where they raised their family, Pat, Mark and Jennifer, in the big house on fifty second street.

Peter cherished the moments spent with June, including their memorable trip to eastern Canada, where he revisited his birthplace, St. John’s, Newfoundland. They also traveled to New York City, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco, with June finally getting him out of the house to explore the world.

A dedicated educator, Peter taught at WR Myers, St. Mary’s, and later brought that same dedication to the MD Park, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and visitors. Known for his remarkable ability to remember faces, he was a cherished figure in the community and church. His Bronco, and in later years, his scooter, were familiar sights around town. Peter was always ready to lend a helping hand or embark on an adventure, such as picking up an army truck with an old friend. His curiosity knew no bounds, and he approached life with an open, non-judgmental mind.

Peter was an avid reader and conversationalist, always ready to engage in a discussion. His childlike curiosity and mischievous smile were infectious. A thinker outside the box, he had a knack for keeping those around him on their toes. His sarcasm, puns, and sense of humor were shared generously, bringing joy to many.

Family memories are filled with climbing mountains in the Bronco, camping in a tent trailer, and waving at amusement parks on the way to museums. Peter's extensive knowledge made him an invaluable member of any trivia team.

An African proverb says, "When an old man dies, a library burns to the ground." This sentiment perfectly captures the essence of Peter.

“God is finally ready for you, Dad. Say hello to Mark for us. We’ll take good care of Mom.”

The family of Peter - June, Pat (Jessica), Jennifer (Chris); granddaughters Samantha (John), Sydney and Abigail, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lieshmann, Dr. Torrie and the team in long-term care at the Taber Health Centre. Your care, compassion, humour, and friendship to Dad (and Mom) eased the challenge of the past two years. Thank you for walking him home.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Peter’s name may be made directly to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1T4 or to the Taber and District Health Foundation (Long Term Care), 4926 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9 www.tdhf.ca.
