Shizue Tomiyama

1927 - 2023

Shizue Tomiyama passed away peacefully in Victoria, British Columbia on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 96 years.

In keeping with Shizue’s wishes, relatives and friends were invited to a celebration of her life at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden where Shizue was laid to rest next to her husband Yoshio.

Shizue will be dearly missed by her five children Ken (Ethel) Tomiyama, Rob (Bonnie) Tomiyama, Doug Tomiyama, Jim Tomiyama and Pat Tomiyama; her grandchildren Kim (Cam) Shaw, Karin Winter, Kathryn (Steven) Rutley-Tomiyama, Kaitlyn Brown, Ryan (Esther) Tomiyama and Alison (Mike) Muller; great grandchildren Ellie Tomiyama, Liam and Laurel Winter, Porter Tomiyama and Takara, Brielle and Micah Rutley. She will be fondly missed by sisters-in-law Mitsuko Oga, Noriko Oga, Hiroye Fujimagari and Takaye Tomiyama; brother-in-law Akira Tomiyama as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband Yoshio Tomiyama; parents Makitaro and Teru Oga; grandson Patrick Tomiyama; brothers Takuta Oga, Toshio Oga and Yoshito Oga; sister Sumiko Miki; parents-in-law Kakuta and Kirino Tomiyama; sisters-in-law Hisaye Ohashi, Sumi Oga, Aiko Tomiyama and Yasuko Saruwatari; brothers-in-law Mike (Yoshio) Ohashi, Jack Fujimagari, Minoru “Mick” Saruwatari, Susumu Miki and Yukio Tomiyama; niece Brenda Oga and nephew David Miki.
