Barry was born in Calgary on September 14, 1942 to Harry and Norleen Thomson, the second oldest of seven boys. He was married three times (twice to the same woman) and had five children. He had the priviledge of living in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. In the 60s he took his Motor Mechanic and Heavy Duty, and in the 70s, his Locksmith & Induction Training for Penitentiary Service. Barry was a man of many talents and a jack of all trades. He was a mechanic, firefighter, tour bus operator and truck driver. He was an outdoor enthusiast- enjoying motorbikes, fishing, shooting, archery, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and camping. He raised many breeds of birds over the years and kept very active.
Barry’s kind manner was known by most. He rooted for the underdog, was always there when you needed him and was passionate about what he believed in and what he stood for. He was a man of few words but much integrity. Barry loved his family and came to every event he could. He enjoyed being involved in his kids and grandkids lives. He believed in hard work and didn't tolerate laziness. One might say he was a tough old bird.
Barry served as a Councillor with the Town of Vauxhall and enjoyed being on committees that brought betterment to his community. Unfortunately, the last couple years brought him many health challenges but he was strong enough and stubborn enough to keep going as long as he could. Eventually those challenges got the better of him and he finished the race. Barry fought the good fight. He found himself very lonely after losing his best friend Rose in June, as they spent a lot of time together over the last decade.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Barry’s name may be made directly to the MyCityCare program. Cheques payable to Taber Parallel Church, Attention: Kelly Fehr, Box 4920, Taber, Alberta T1G 2E1or online by visiting https://parallelchurch.com/give.

Thank you to the Town of Vauxhall for the beautiful write up in the paper and on Facebook. Finally, the family wish to offer a special thank you to the “angel’ who cleaned Barry’s house while he was in the hospital.
