Ken Ikebuchi

1952 - 2022

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved dad, cousin and friend Byron Ken lkebuchi in Coaldale on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 69 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

The celebration of Ken’s life was held at the Heritage Inn, 4830 - 46 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 3:00 P.M.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his son Tyler; numerous relatives and friends from his extended family and very special friends Ken Setoguchi, Rick Wilk and Rod Odland.

He was predeceased by his brother Ted in 1966, father George in 1993 and mother Yoshiye in 2015.

Ken was born on September 21, 1952 in Taber. He graduated high school in 1970 and attended SAIT, receiving his journeymen in mechanics. Ken married Gail in 1979 and took over Chinook Service, his family business in 1984. In late 1991 Ken was blessed with a son, Tyler and his life changed from being a mechanic to also being a dad. Ken continued to operate Chinook Service till 2003 at which time he sold the business. Shortly after selling the business Ken began working at NAPA Auto Parts in Taber where he spent years working as a partsman. He enjoyed curling in his spare time but most of his spare time was spent with Tyler.

Whether it be golfing, hunting or travelling around for hockey, Ken and Tyler spent a lot of time together and made very many precious memories. Ken retired in 2016. He was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan and rarely missed a game on television. In his later years Ken began to follow baseball again and began again cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers, watching them win a World Series in 2020. Ken will be remembered as a loving and caring father to Tyler and a good friend to many people. He was a kind person who was always there to help people and whose smile could light up a room.
