Philip Ell
1929 - 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Philip Ell said goodbye to their precious husband, grandpa and father on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the age of 92 years.
A private Prayer Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Monday, November 8, 2021.
A private Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Taber on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Burial followed at the Assumption Cemetery, Grassy Lake.
Besides Josephine, his loving wife of sixty seven years, he is survived by their three children Calvin (Patti) Ell of Grassy Lake, Marilyn (Arnie) Henderson of Medicine Hat, James (Laura) Ell of Spruce Grove and son-in-law Fred Voeller of High River; grandchildren Michael (Kris) Ell, Cory (Corinna) Ell, Shawn (Jill) Ell, Haley (Brian) McLean, Denai Lanz, Tasha Lanz, Sarah Henderson, Nathan Ell, Noah Ell, Kole Voeller and Miah Voeller; great grandchildren Piper Ell, Taytem Ell, Emersyn Ell, Lennyx Ell, Telaine Lanz, Evan Lanz, Jayden Lanz, Brandon Ell, Brooklyn Ell, Asher Ell, Brianna Ell and Spencer Ell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter Sharlene Voeller and by his siblings Peter Ell, Helen (Gordon) Reber, Tillie (William) Fedoruk and Edward (Ella) Ell.
Philip was born in Grassy Lake, the fourth child to Roy and Luvella (nee Gross) Ell. A family of five children, Helen, Tillie, Edward, Philip and Peter, who died in infancy.
Philip was raised on the family farm south of Grassy Lake, later taking over the family farm. In the off season of farming, Philip did many other jobs. In 1951 he logged with his brother-in-law Gordon Reber at Bowden. He also ran the pool hall in Grassy Lake, worked in trucking, at the Rogers Sugar Factory and ran the post office.
He enjoyed baseball, the Blue Jays, curling, fishing, hunting and camping. Most of all, he loved time spent with family. He lived most of his life in Grassy Lake and moved to Taber in 2016 where he could sit on his patio and watch local baseball and the grand kids playing in the park.
Philip passed away peacefully. He was loved and will be missed by so many. May he rest in peace.
