Katie Friesen

Katie Friesen, beloved wife of the late George Friesen, passed away in Edam, Saskatchewan on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the age of 91 years.
A private service was held at Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church on Thursday, September 24,2020. Burial followed at the Vauxhall Mennonite Cemetery.
Katie is survived by her children Esther Friesen of Beaverlodge, Lawrence (Francie) Friesen of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Dorothy (Ervin) Friesen of Rosemary, Allan (Esther) Friesen of Vauxhall, Joyce (Edwin) Wall of Edam, Saskatchewan and George (Diana) Friesen of Vauxhall; grandchildren, numerous great children and a number of great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband George Friesen, her parents and son-in-law John Friesen.
Katie was born on May 12, 1929, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She came from a blended family of eighteen children of which she was the fifteenth child. Katie grew up on the family farm in Vauxhall, At fourteen years of age, the most important event in her life was accepting Jesus as her Saviour. In 1946 at the age of seventeen, Katie married George Friesen. Their families were neighbours and friends. In 1949, their first child Esther was born. Five more children followed; Lawrence, Dorothy, Allan, Joyce and George. Katie was a homemaker. She worked alongside her husband. They grew sugar beets and grain. She was also involved with the Mennonite Central Committee, making quilts, blankets and gathering other disaster relief supplies for overseas. Katie often accompanied George on agricultural tours in Canada. In 1991, after the passing of her husband, she moved into the town of Vauxhall. Throughout her life, she joyfully cared for her grandchildren, making wool quilts for them. She travelled with friends to Israel in 1995. Through her life experiences, the Holy Spirit has guided Katie. He has given her great peace. She had the privilege and pleasure of praying for her family, the grand total exceeding one hundred and sixty at the time of her passing.
