1936 - 2020

Charlotte Mary Fletcher (nee Jordan), beloved wife of the late Robert Fletcher passed away in Lethbridge on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the age of 83 years.

As a result of the restrictions regarding COVID-19, and the government’s recommendations, a private visitation was held at Southland Funeral Chapel. A private burial service followed at the Taber Memorial Garden on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 12:00 P.M.

Charlotte is survived by her children Tim (Patti) Fletcher of Taber, Debbie (John) Thurgarland of Penticton, British Columbia, Darlene Fletcher (Jesse) Owlchild of Calgary; five grandchildren Cody (Sarah), Kaylyn (Mack), Dylan (Lauren), Joshua and Meghan; eight great-grandchildren that she loved dearly, Gracelynn, Piper, Emersyn, Adalynn, Fletcher, Charley, Leighton and Trace. She is also survived by her brother Mel Jordan; sisters-in-law Jean Jordan, Rita Jordan, Yvonne Jordan and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Fletcher; parents James and Alice Jordan; her brothers Vernon Jordan, Keith Jordan, Ken Jordan, Ron Jordan; sisters-in-law Cathy Jordan, Marg Jordan and by Robert’s brother Bill (Betty) Fletcher.

Charlotte was born on September 12, 1936, the only girl among five brothers. The family lived on a farm in Champion. She graduated from high school in 1954 and entered the Galt School of Nursing in Lethbridge. Following her graduation from nursing school in 1957, she worked at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital in the medical and maternity wards, and later in the operating room, which was her favourite place to work. She eventually was appointed the supervisor of the operating room.

In 1958, Charlotte met Robert Fletcher on a blind date to attend the fireman’s ball. They were married on October 24, 1959 in Taber. They moved to the bunk house on the family farm and later to the main house. They had three children Timothy, Debra and Darlene. In 1979, the family moved to Taber. In 1995, Bob developed lymphoma and after undergoing treatment, later died December 30, 1996.

Charlotte remained active in the community and was a Canadian Girls in Training leader for six years. In 1998, she was asked to become secretary of the board at Knox United Church. Charlotte maintained that position until 2005. She was also involved with the Senior’s Center as secretary and on the official board for several years. Charlotte started a travel group and travelled to many destinations, including a trip to Ireland with her daughters. She ran crib tournaments for twelve years with over one hundred participants. In 2009, she was honored with the Senior Citizen of the Year award for her work in the community. In 2018, Charlotte moved into Clearview Lodge, were she enjoyed many social activities, including playing smear, crib and crocheting.
