It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful man, our hero, our dad, Frank Gregory Slavik, beloved husband of the late Betty Slavik, in Taber on Friday, May 24, 2019 at age of 92 years.

A private burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 with Life Celebrant, Shelly Dawn Bassett officiating.

Left to morn his passing and celebrate his life are his three loving daughters Debbie Slavik of Lethbridge, Sherry (Garry) Friesen of Taber and Janet Slavik of Lethbridge. He will be fondly remembered by two granddaughters Kyilee (Jason) Turre of Stettler and their family Riley,Corbyn, Drew and Parker; Jolene (Ryan) Badura of Taber and their family Jaxson and Ally. He is also survived by his cousin Paul (Goldie) Deme of Taber.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Betty Slavik, his parents Frank and Barbara Szlavik, his brother and sister-in-law Frank and Mary Bodnar, his nephew Allan Bodnar and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives in Hungary.

Frank was born in Tiszanána Heves Megye, Hungary on March 12, 1927 and immigrated to Canada in June of 1938 at the age of eleven. He and his mother landed by boat in Montreal and then took the train to Summit Lime Works, Crowsnest Pass to meet up with his Father. He started working at the Summit Lime Works when he was sixteen years old and retired in 1987 with forty four years of service. In 1989, he moved to Taber where he has resided ever since.

Frank married Betty, the love of his life in 1958 and together they had three wonderful daughters, Debbie, Sherry and Janet. He was an awesome Dad who would do anything for them. Frank was an avid fisherman and knew all the tricks of the trade and knew where the best fishing holes around Taber and Crowsnest Pass were.

Frank’s greatest gift to his family was his kind and nurturing ways, his generosity to his family and all who knew him. He always made time for his family and made sure they were always taken care of. We sure will miss you Dad ... "Our Hero"!

Frank’s family wish to acknowledge with great appreciation Dr. Leishman, Dr. Torrie, Ed Collin and all of the wonderful staff at Linden View for taking such good care of their dad Frank, who was a resident there for the past year.
