Jim Smith
1960 - 2019
James Drew Smith, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the age of 59 years. Jim spent his final days surrounded by family at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary.
The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Life Celebrant, Shelly Dawn Bassett officiating.
Jim is survived by his sons Josh (Bobbi-Jo) Smith of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Jared (Alyson) Smith of Cold Lake and Jesse (Rebecca) Smith of Lethbridge; grandchildren Jordan, Kyle and Carson Smith. He is also survived by his siblings Marilyne Smith (Monti Maxwell) and Bonnie (Barry) Daisley; sister-in-law Violet Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Alan and Marie Smith and his siblings Frank, Vicki, Marjorie and Sonja.
Jim was born in the old Taber Hospital on January 11, 1960. He grew up on the family farm in the Fincastle region. He attended school in Taber, graduating from W.R. Myers High School in 1978. Jim was an avid sportsman who loved playing hockey, baseball and golf. He was also passionate about hunting, fishing and farming. He married Teresa Ell in 1981. They started their family in Taber with the birth of Josh in 1985, followed by Jared in 1988 and Jesse in 1990. Jim worked in the oil and gas sector throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia as well as operated a small farm. The family relocated to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan in 1996 where Jim continued working in the oilfield and farming. He returned to Taber in 2003, where he lived until his passing. In his later years, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, particularly during the Christmas season.
