Josephine Kalvi

1931 - 2019

Josephine Kalvi (nee DeBona), beloved wife of the late Albert Kalvi, passed away in Lethbridge on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the age of 87 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 5:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Josephine is survived by her sons Joseph Kalvi of Lethbridge, John Kalvi of Dana Point, California and daughter-in-law Linda Kalvi of Cambridge, Ontario; grandchildren Jason Bronco, Curtis Andrew, LeAnna Lee, Lexington Rachel, Madison Leonard, and great granddaughter Marley Grace.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert, her son Bronco and daughter-in-law Laurel Lee; four brothers Ivan “Nani”, Petar, Josip “Bepi” and Nikola; two sisters Ermina and Stefa and her infant sons Dragan and Zdenko in Croatia.

Josephine was born in Donja Obrijez, Croatia. She and Albert moved their two sons, Joseph and Bronco, to France where they settled long enough to welcome baby John into the world. Wanting to find a better life for their young family, they decided to immigrate to Canada in the winter of 1959. Josephine and Albert settled in Taber to raise their sons and remained there until retiring to Lethbridge.

While Albert worked as a carpenter, Josephine ran the household and made sure that her boys were well fed and cared for until they moved away and had families of their own. Although she loved life in Canada, she missed home and was so happy when her relatives from the “Old Country” would call. Josephine loved to garden and always had the most impressive flower beds in the neighbourhood.

The world seems a little less colorful now that she is gone. She has returned home but will never be forgotten.
