Peter Ferros
1933 - 2018
Peter Ferros, beloved husband of Clara Ferros, passed away peacefully in Taber on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the age of 85 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 5:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Besides his loving wife Clara, he is survived by their three daughters Mildred (Paul) McKerley of Bristow, Virginia, Brenda Ferros (Lyndon Horvey) of Calgary and Elizabeth Ferros (Justin) Welbourn of Calgary as well as grandchildren Aiden McKerley, Jaya and Nahlin Welbourn. He is also survived by his siblings Sister M. Eulalia of the Apostolic Carmelites, Patna, India, Aurelia (Mark) Mendes of London, England and Angelica (Mike) Fernandes of Perth, W. Australia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Mary (nee Monteiro) and Fedelis Ferros; brother Stephen Ferros and sister Antonieta Correia.
Peter was born in Goa, India on February 21, 1933. He completed his primary and secondary education at St. Paul's High School, in Belgaum, India. In 1951, he relocated to Mombasa, Kenya to pursue work as an Customs and Excise officer for the Kenyan Federal Government. In 1963, Peter married Clara D'Souza in Mombasa. Seeking a brighter future for his family, he relocated again to Taber in 1970 under the sponsorship of Constantine and Antonieta Correia. Peter was fortunate to find work at Lucerne Foods Ltd as a general labourer and moved into an office job with the same company, after four years. He retired from this position in 1996, with twenty six years of service to the company.
Peter enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, gardening, singing in the church choir and watching his favourite NHL team, the Montreal Canadiens. Although quiet in nature, he was known and loved for his generous heart and quirky sense of humour.
