Eugene Torrie

1957 - 2018

Eugene Hull Torrie, beloved husband, father and friend to all, passed away unexpectedly in Taber on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the age of 61 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 12, 2018 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, October 13, 2018 between 9:00 A.M. and 9:40 A.M.

The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake at 2:00 P.M.

Eugene is survived by his wife Susan Torrie (nee Schramm); daughters Tonya (Benson) Taylor of Rigby, Idaho and their children, Audrey, Jessica, Austin and Jackson; Kinsey (Clark) Holt of Raymond and their children, Ava, Emma, Piper and baby girl #4 (due November); Megan Torrie of Taber and her son Gavin; Kelsey Torrie of Barnwell; Brianne (JT) Wade of Heber, Utah; son Brandon Torrie of Barnwell. He is also survived by his siblings Wayne (Judy) Torrie, Colleen (Craig) Smith, LeRon (Colleen) Torrie, Richard (Sylvia) Torrie and Kevin (Peggy) Torrie as well as his large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents Marvin Hull Torrie and Guinevere Torrie (nee Redd).

Eugene was born May 5, 1957, to loving parents, Marvin and Guinivere. He grew up in Grassy Lake on the family farm. Eugene served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles, California. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from Brigham Young University and returned to Grassy Lake where he loved being a rancher for many years.

Eugene loved horses, and his family remembers countless rides on wagons and sleighs. He was never happier than when surrounded by his wife and family. Eugene loved giving wagon rides for community events. He was a volunteer with Scouts Canada for over thirty years, and had a great love for the scouting program. Eugene served faithfully in many callings in the Church throughout his life.

Eugene was ever the optimist, and could see the bright side or find something to laugh about in every situation. He was kind to all and always made time to listen to friends or strangers alike. He would quickly drop everything to help someone who needed it, and he went through life with a smile on his face whistling or singing.

Above all, Eugene loved his family. He taught them to work hard, love God, and never give up.
