Bob Fettig
1948 - 2017
Robert John Fettig, beloved husband of Rene Fettig, passed away in Taber on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the age of 68 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. Private burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Besides his loving wife Rene, Bob is survived by their children and grandchildren, Danielle (Devin) Hansen of Taber and their family Jessie, Blaze and Tayla; Robert Fettig (Debbie Walter) of Taber and their family Tyson and Adreyana. He is also survived by his dad John (Margaret) Fettig of Calgary; step father George Frank of Tonasket, Washington; mother-in-law Jenny Mazereeuw of Taber; siblings Trudy (Gary) Hoffman of Osoyoos, British Columbia, Tori Sassone of Spokane, Washington, Renee Balcom of Spokane, Washington, Tom Patt of Edmonton, Terri Patt of Vancouver, British Columbia and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was welcomed to heaven by his son Blaine Fettig, his mother Burna Frank and his father-in-law Pete Mazereeuw.
Bob was born in Taber December 3, 1948. Following high school, he studied automotive parts at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary. After returning to Taber, he worked for the Ford dealership and in 1975, married Rene Mazereeuw. Bob continued working in parts with various dealerships for the next thirty five years. He was self employed for the last thirteen years of his work life, operating Blainco Pressure Service.
Bob had a passion for sports. In 1970, he won the Alberta Boxing Golden Gloves and won the Canadian Master Men’s Slowpitch Championship in 1989. He was a life member of both the Southern Alberta Basketball Officials Association and the Alberta Basketball Officials Association. Bob received the national award of merit from the Canadian Basketball Officials Association in 2014 and was inducted into the Taber Sports Hall of Fame, team category in 2005 and the builder category in 2013. He enjoyed coaching the Taber Kinsmen Mosquito’s which included his son’s Blaine & Rob, taking the team to a provincial championship in 1990. He also enjoyed coaching the 1975/1976 women’s provincial basketball championships.
Bob’s true enjoyment in life was spending time with Rene, their children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
