Henk Kuizenga

1934 - 2017

“Free at last!”

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.                      2 Timothy 4:7&8

Hendrik Kuizenga, beloved husband of Rose Kuizenga, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the age of 82 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, January 27, 2017 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

A private burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden prior to the funeral service.

The Funeral Service was held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 3902 Heritage Drive, Taber on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.

Besides his loving wife Rose, he is survived by their children and grandchildren Marlene (Edward) Hoetmer of Villeneuve and their family Yanise and Nadege; Carol (Albert) Ypma of Lacombe and their family Samantha (Joe) Jueng, Austin and Brett; Allen (Alana) Kuizenga of Burdett and their family Natasha, Marissa and Brenden; Sandra Jackson of Taber and her family Logan and Spencer; Cynthia (Kevin) Holtrop of Lethbridge and their family Kaden, Addy, Liam and Drew. He is also survived by his sisters Tinie Hoogendoorn and Mattie Baaijens of the Netherlands as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson Barrett Hoetmer, parents Abel and Ebeltje Kuizenga, Rose’s parents Berend and Roefina Huizing and by several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Henk was born on September 10, 1934 in Kloosterburen, Groningen, The Netherlands. After spending some time serving in the military and working as a customs officer, he followed his dream of making a life for himself as a farmer in Canada. He came to Canada on an agricultural exchange in 1958 and immigrated to Canada in 1960.

On October 8, 1963 he married the love of his life, Rose Huizing. Together they raised their five children on the farm south of Burdett. Henk was an active member of both the Burdett Christian Reformed Church as well as the community at large, having served as an elder at church and working on several agricultural projects in the area. He was a founding member of the bean plant in Bow Island.

In 2000, Henk semi retired from farming. During this time, he and Rose had several opportunities to travel abroad. He was also able to spend a lot of time on the farm helping Allen. He loved visiting with his children and all his grandchildren had a special place in his heart.

Henk was diagnosed with cancer in 1991 and again in 1996. Although the cancer never came back after receiving radiation treatments, he lived courageously with the many side effects until his passing. Throughout all his struggles, his faith in the Lord never wavered. He shared his faith with everyone he loved. His greatest desire was that one day he would see all his family and friends reunited with him in Heaven, where there will be no more pain, suffering or separation. Until then, rest peacefully Dad.
