Myra Evanson

1922 - 2017

Myra Gwyneth Evanson (nee Griffin), beloved wife of the late Ray Evanson, passed away in Taber on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the age of 94 years.

 Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, January 20, 2017 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, January 21, 2017 between 9:15 A.M. and 10:30 A.M.

 The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.  

 Myra is lovingly remembered by her six children: Maureen (Charles “Buster”) Burke of Coaldale, Brent (Dotty) Evanson of Malad, Idaho, John (Heather) Evanson of Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, Eric (Ruthie) Evanson of Gilbert, Arizona, Stephen (Derae) Evanson of Lethbridge, and Cathy (Evanson) Bird of Willard, Missouri. She is also survived by her sister Margaret “Betty” Crawford of Saskatoon and sister-in-law Ruth Harding of Willard, Utah.

 She was predeceased by her husband Ray Evanson in 2006.

  Myra Gwyneth Griffin Evanson was born July 31, 1922 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Charles and Margaret (Madge) Griffin. Myra and her four siblings grew up on a farm outside of Swift Current where she learned to work hard from an early age. Upon completing high school she moved to Regina to take a business course, which eventually landed her a job back in Swift Current working for the government during the War. It was there that she met the great “love of her life” Ray Evanson who was stationed in the area with the RCMP. Their first date was on Valentine’s Day and through the course of their marriage, Ray gave her a dozen red roses every February 14 until his passing in 2006. After marrying and relocating to Taber, she was alone while Ray was stationed in England. When he returned, they started a family and raised their first five children in Taber. Ray and Myra moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1965 where they presided over the Southern States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. While serving in this assignment, Cathy was born. Upon returning to Taber in 1968, Myra continued to be a wonderful mother while doing tremendous service in the church and community. She went back to work as a paralegal and worked for Peterson & Purvis Law Firm for many years. Myra loved music and sang with and lead the Choralaires until her passing. She was a fantastic cook, found joy in sharing that talent with others and loved working in the yard. Myra was generally happiest  when busy and always rated her day by how much she accomplished. She continued to live in her home until her passing. Myra was an example of integrity, compassion, service and love to everyone. We will miss her terribly but are content knowing she is finally re-united with Ray and all those loved ones who have gone on before.
