Merle Koenig
1937 - 2016
Merle Ray Koenig, beloved husband of Florence Koenig, passed away in Taber on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the age of 79 years.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 324 - 2 Avenue North, Vauxhall on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Alana Johnson officiating.
Besides Florence, his loving wife of fifty seven years, Merle is survived by their children Patty Koenig (Harold Wright) of Red Deer, Mark (Nancy) Koenig of Redcliff and Brian (Shirley) Koenig of Lethbridge; grandchildren Nick (Jacquie) Lentz, Carmen Lentz (Darcy Bugera), Andy Koenig, Tyler Westergard (Haley Steenbergen), Lauren Koenig, Alyssa Koenig and Brendan Koenig; great grandchildren Dominique Lentz, Madyson Lentz, Mavryck Lentz and Logan Koenig. He is also survived by his sister Sharon (Paul) Mast and stepsister Irene Stock; sisters-in-law Irene Sadler, Ruby Mock and Shirley Elhart; brothers-in-law Jim Brost, Lance (Olive) Brost and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Charlie Koenig and mother Ella Bohnet; sister Gladys Baumbach and nephew Darcy Baumbach; father-in-law Ed Brost and mother-in-law Ida Brost; brothers-in-law Allan Brost, Gary Brost, George Brost, Boyd Sadler, Don Elhart and Marvin Mock; stepbrother-in-law Edwin Stock and sister-in-law Mable Brost.
Merle was born in Robinson on June 10, 1937 and attended school in Irvine. He married Florence Brost in Medicine Hat on June 27, 1959. Merle spent a few years farming and working as a mechanic before he went to work for Redcliff Bus Lines where he drove bus for twenty five years. He then worked for Palliser Health for twenty years before retiring to Vauxhall in 2002.
Merle always had a joke or two. He loved camping, biking, playing cards and games. He had a great love for horses which he enjoyed riding in the Medicine Hat Parade. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
