AKI FURUKAWA

1925 - 2007

Aki Furukawa of Taber, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the age of 82 years.
Aki is survived by his siblings: Marge (Gen) Maruyama of Lethbridge and their four sons Dean (Lynn) Maruyama and their four children of Lethbridge, Rod Maruyama of Vancouver, Colin Maruyama (Bobbi-Rae) and their two children of Lethbridge, and Derrick (Deanna) Maruyama and their two children of Taber; Leo (Yosh) Furukawa and their son Robbie (Lisa) Furukawa and their one child, Bob (Rose) Furukawa and their two sons Barry (Dennise) Furukawa and their three children of Ottawa, Ontario, and Jason (Akane) Furukawa and their two children of North Vancouver, B.C.; Aunts Kimi Furukawa and Ruth Furukawa of Lethbridge, and Yoshino Takami of Kumamoto Ken, Japan as well as numerous other relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents Akio and Yachiyo Furukawa of Taber, and four Uncles and one Aunt.
Aki was born November 18, 1925 in Vancouver, B.C. where he was attending McGill High School when WWII abruptly interrupted the Furukawa family life in Vancouver. From 1941 to 1945, Aki and the Furukawa family were interned in the relocation camp Ghostown of Slocan in the West Kooteney Valley of B.C.  Following the end of WWII he moved with his family to Southern Alberta to the Sugar beet farms and the beginning of a new life.  The Furukawa family settled in Taber in 1948 where Aki has resided until his passing.  He farmed with his parents and also worked as a Painter.  Aki was injured and lived with a disability for over forty years.  He enjoyed fishing & hunting and was a member of the Taber Legion.  He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He wished to be remembered and not mourned.  The Memorial Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 2:00 P.M.
