DON FISHER

1941 - 2008

Donald Henry Fisher of Vauxhall, beloved husband of Rose (nee Platt) Fisher, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the age of 67 years.
Besides his loving wife Rose, Don is survived by his children Tamera Quackenbush of Vancouver, Washington and her three children (Lorrina Jo, Lisa and Chantelle); Tracy (Richard) Graham of Atlanta, Georgia and their six children (Dallin, Kerilyn, Tyler, Derrick, Whitney and Kevin); Scott (Janine) Fisher of Sherwood Park and their three children (Cohen, Brenna and Grace); Brian Fisher of Victoria, British Columbia; Julie (Jay) O’Bray of Fort McMurray and their three children (James, Jadie and Jaryn). He is also survived by his mother Ruth Fisher; siblings Cassie Sevalrud, Bruce (Bettejean) Fisher, Sheila Miller and numerous nieces and nephews. Other relatives include mother-in-law Iola Platt; brother-in-law Don (Sharon) Platt and sister-in-law Ila Rae (Jim) Watmough.
He was predeceased by his father Peter James Fisher; sister Marnie Noble; son-in-law David Quackenbush; brother-in-law Tom Miller and nephew Jim Sevalrud.
Donald Henry Fisher was born in Taber on February 27, 1941 to Peter and Ruth Fisher. He took his schooling in Taber and then attended the University of Alberta, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1962. That summer he married his high school sweetheart, Rose Platt, and they moved
to Cardston where he began his career as a pharmacist. Don eventually purchased the drug store in Vauxhall and “Fisher’s Pharmacy” was established in 1974 with Don in residence as the “piller” of the community. Don was very dedicated to the town of Vauxhall and was always willing to give service to anyone or any project that required his assistance. He served two terms as mayor, started the Vauxhall Businessmen’s Association, and served on many committees such as golf club, food bank, tennis club etc. As an active member of the LDS church community, he served as Young Men’s President, Scout Master, Sunday School teacher, Bishop and financial clerk to name a few, but he wore many other church “hats” as well. In his final year Don enjoyed working with his wife Rose as they travelled every Friday to Cardston to give further church service in the temple there. Don was a true “people person” with many hobbies and talents, including photography, woodworking and gardening, but his favourite past time was singing with his dear wife as he played his ukulele. Of all his earthly duties and accomplishments, Don achieved his greatest success as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always made special time for his children and grandchildren; little hikes, golf outings, jet ski trips and “you-choose-the-activity” projects were frequent, and part of the reason he was so special to his family, and why he will be so greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and at the church prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 between 12:40 P.M. and 1:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Bishop Blaine Burbank conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Don’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
