WANDA FLETCHER
1912 - 2008
Wanda Fletcher, beloved wife of Ken Fletcher of Taber, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the age of 96 years.
Besides her loving husband Ken, Wanda leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Arlene (George) Lowe of Prince George and their children Martin (Kathy) Lowe of Fort Nelson and Shonda Lowe of Prince George; son Grant (Marilyn) Fletcher of Taber and their children Janine (Tom) Paterson of Taber, Judy (Andy) Astalos of Hinton and David Fletcher of Grande Cache; daughter-in-law Cecile (Roger) Jespersen of Taber and their son Reid Fletcher of Taber, Nicole (Shane) Ferguson of Slave Lake and Ashley Jespersen of Chicago. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Candis & Stacey Derksen; Daina Paterson; Ryan, Samantha & Megan Astalos; Devin & Shawn Fletcher; Addie, Hunter & Evan Lowe; Kegan Lowe; Dylan & Nicholas Ferguson; Rhiannon Fletcher and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Martin & Irene Holtman; son Allen Fletcher, grandson Aaron Jespersen; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, her twin Wilma (Carl) McCann, Myrtle (Frank) Lough, Lyndia Holtman, Delles (Oz) Thompson, Pearl Holtman, Florence (Hugo) Miller; four brothers and four sisters-in-law, Ira (Rhonda) Holtman, Ralph (Lorna) Holtman, Charles (Grace) Holtman and Bill (Margaret) Holtman.
Wanda was born August 8, 1912 on a ranch in Yost, Box Elder County, Utah. At an early age, her family moved to Burlay, Idaho. The family immigrated to Canada in 1918 and settled on a farm near Coaldale. She received her schooling in Coaldale, riding five miles to school in a horse drawn van.
Wanda and Ken were married March 5, 1935 and raised their three children on the farm south of Taber. They remained on the farm until retiring in 1973 when they moved to Taber.
Wanda enjoyed being involved in the church and was presented with a life membership pin from Knox United. She joined the Rosolan Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in 1945 and was Worthy Matron in 1955. She was appointed Grand Marshall of the Grand Chapter of Alberta for 1962 - 1963 and also Grand Representative to the State of Arizona for 1978 - 1980. In later years, Wanda was affiliated with the Laurel Chapter of the Eastern Star in Lethbridge and in 1995 was presented with her fifty year jewel in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile in Lethbridge.
Wanda took great pleasure in oil painting and china painting. In all her activities, nothing could compare for her love of family.
For almost twenty five years, Wanda and Ken enjoyed several months each winter at their mobile home in El Mirage Park in Mesa, Arizona. Since selling their home in Arizona in 1994, they have enjoyed a Panama Canal Cruise, a month in Spain and a tour in Mexico.
Wanda will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and their many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
