KEN FLETCHER
1912 - 2014
Kenneth John Fletcher, beloved husband of the late Wanda Fletcher, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at the remarkable age of 101 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, May 4, 2014 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Burial Service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden, one kilometer north of 64 Avenue on 50 Street, Taber on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 A.M.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Alana Johnson officiating.
Ken leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Arlene (George) Lowe of Prince George and their children Martin (Kathy) Lowe of Fort Nelson, British Columbia and Shonda Lowe of Prince George, British Columbia; son Grant (Marilyn) Fletcher of Taber and their children Janine (Tom) Paterson of Taber, Judy (Andy) Astalos of Bonnyville and David Fletcher of Rocky Mountain House; daughter-in-law Cecile (Roger) Jespersen of Taber and their son Reid Fletcher (Kim Holcek) of Taber, Nicole Ferguson of Edmonton and Ashley (Gabriel) Pinto of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren, Addie, Hunter and Evan Lowe, Kegan Lowe, Candis Derksen (Darin Linklater), Stacy (Darren) Peleskey, Daina Paterson, Ryan (Tabitha) Astalos, Samantha (Chad) Priegnitz, Megan Astalos (Brennan Rogiers), Devin (Blanca) Fletcher, Shawn Fletcher (Chantal Kmiech), Dallen (Alexis) Baugh, Kayla Baugh, Rhiannon Fletcher, Logan Kromm, Dylan and Nicholas Ferguson and Gabriel Pinto. He is also survived by nine great great grandchildren, Nixon and Aubree Peleskey, Haylen and Farah Astalos, Lucas and Ayla Priegnitz, Kacey Rogiers, Sofia Fletcher and Brooklyn Baugh.
He was predeceased by his wife of seventy three years, Wanda Fletcher; son Allen Fletcher and grandson Aaron Jespersen.
Ken was born at the family farm south east of Taber on September 30, 1912. He continued to farm in the area and married Wanda Holtman on March 5, 1935 where they raised their three children on the farm. They remained on the farm until retiring in 1973 when they moved to Taber. For almost twenty five years, Ken and Wanda enjoyed several months each winter at their mobile home in El Mirage Park in Mesa, Arizona. Ken loved wood working, carving and tinkering with anything that needed fixed. He also enjoyed horseback riding, golfing and fishing in his younger years.
Ken was an active member of the Knox United Church and belonged to many community service groups including the Masons, Elks, Moose Lodge and also as a 4-H leader. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his family and their many friends.
