Dorothy was born in Calgary on October 19, 1919 to Eng (nee Ho) and Luey DoFoo. She married Edward Fong in Calgary in 1949 and they moved to Taber where Ed managed the Big T Supermarket along with his two brothers.
Dorothy was a kind and generous person and a very supportive wife and mother. Throughout her lifetime she was helpful to new immigrants and was able to use her bilingual skills to assist others, especially Chinese women who needed guidance for doctor, hair or eye appointments. She was active in the UCW for many years at the Knox United Church. Dorothy was caring and supportive of her children’s needs and aspirations and loved her grandchildren very much. She was so delighted to have lived to meet Simon, her only great grandchild. She taught her children the difference between right and wrong and to respect their elders and this legacy will be passed down to future generations.
Many of the fun times were spent with Ed and the notorious neighbours on 51st Street, whose good humour and pranks were legendary. In earlier years, as children of new immigrant families, there were social challenges that had to be overcome. Perseverance and hard work by Dorothy’s generation smoothed the way for her future descendants who are deeply indebted for the lives that they enjoy now A long life, well lived.... rest in peace.
