The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Roque Pereira, Celebrant. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Besides her loving husband Ron, she was the proud mother of Raymond Ficek of Taber and Michelle (Doug) Cranston of Taber; a devoted and loving grandmother to six grandchildren Chancelor, Kaya, Brooke and Chase Ficek, Jaiden and Taryn Cranston. She will also be missed by many extended family members and friends.
Marie and Ron moved to Taber in 1976 where together they raised their two children. The love for her family is what defined Marie, becoming the essence of her being. Throughout her lifetime, she exemplified the utmost devotion to her family which was never ending. Marie was the biggest fan at sporting events and could be found driving to and from activities. She always kept the door open for her children, grandchildren and friends who know they were always welcome to drop in unannounced. The front steps of their home was most often where they could all be found, enjoying their time together. Along with her dedication to family, Marie was a faithful long term employee at Frito-Lay. Her work “family” became a meaningful extension to her life and often she would arrive an hour before her shift started, to visit and enjoy the company of her co-workers. From text messages, phone calls, face times, to snuggles on the couch, “Now I lay me down to sleep” and giggles, she was always there. A listening ear, advice offered now and then and sentences ending with “...and that”. Marie was the matriarch, a role model, best friend and an unwavering support to so many. When the time came for Marie to be in the hospital, she continued to develop meaningful relationships with the doctors and nursing staff. Of particular importance to her was Dr. Jeff Hughes. Marie enjoyed his quick wit and energy, his never ending willingness to help and his caring nature that went above and beyond the call of duty.
