RUTH FISHER

1909 - 2013

Our beloved matriarch, Ruth Lillian Fisher, passed away at Linden View Care Centre in Taber in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the arms of her daughter. She lived to the amazing age of 104 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Arij Langstraat officiating. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Ruth is survived by her devoted son Bruce (Bettejean) Fisher of Taber, daughter Sheila Miller of Victoria, British Columbia and daughter-in-law Rose Fisher of Vauxhall. She took great pleasure in cultivating a special relationship through the years with her twenty grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren as well as ten great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of sixty six years, Peter (1996), daughters Marion Noble (1972) and Catherine Sevalrud (2012), son Don Fisher (2007), sons-in-law David Noble (1997) and Thomas Miller (2006) as well as grandson James Sevalrud (1977).
Born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Ruth spent all but the first year of her life residing in the Taber area, after her parents Herman and Ida Schmidt with sons Milton and Clifford and daughter Ruth settled in the Big Bend area north of Taber.
Ruth enjoyed a very full life. Some of her rich experiences included working as a cook at Albert Green’s sheep ranch, assisting with many aspects of farming. She later taught Grade One in the Taber School District for twenty years, although she began her teaching career in 1928 in a one room school house teaching grades one to eight at Wadena and Driftwood Schools.
Ruth was a faithful member of Knox United Church, life member of United Church Women, as well as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent for many years. She was active in the Women of the Moose, the Eastern Star and Ladies Aide in the early years.
Ruth will be remembered for her patience, grace and cheerful, optimistic outlook even in times of challenge and adversity. We will miss her words of encouragement and sweet smile and winks of appreciation or recognition immensely.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Taber and District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.
The family wishes to express thanks to Dr. Beckie for his care over the many years, as well as that of the care givers at Clearview Lodge, Taber Continuing Care, Linden View and Taber Home Care.
