1935 - 2013

Gerald Ralph Svensen, beloved husband of Dolores Svensen, passed away in Taber on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the age of 78 years.
A private burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden on Saturday, September 21, 2013.
A reception was held at the Heritage Inn, 4830 - 46 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, September 21, 2013 between 11:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.
Besides his loving wife Dolores, he is survived by his children Perry (Trish) Svensen of Calgary, Gale (Steven) Egeland of Taber and Garth (Jocelyn) Svensen of Vegreville; Dolores’ children Brad (Sue) Murphy of Taber, Guy Murphy of Taber, Barb Haynes (Dan Brandics) of Taber and Cathy Murphy (Roger Noble) of Coaldale; grandchildren Krista (Dale) Ruggles, Bradley (Janelle) Egeland, Lindsey Egeland (Stan Dearing), Grant Svensen, Ashley Svensen (Justin Olynyk), Tara Schmidt, Lee, Jared and Tylin Haynes; great grandchildren Owen, Savanah, Tristen, Carter, Rachel, Emmett, Lexi, Kaylee, Blake, Lichelle, Alyssa, Dixon, Caiden and Conner. He is also survived by his sister Lynn (Otto) Kedl of Prince George, sisters-in-law Anne Svensen of Qualicum Beach and Donna Schafer of Innisfail.
He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Edris Svensen, his first wife Jan Svensen, brothers Ed, Donald and Jim Svensen, sister Dorothy Runte, brothers-in-law Gerald Schafer and Ernie Runte.
Gerald was born in Edmonton on June 4, 1935 and was raised in Wetaskiwin. In 1966 Gerald moved to Taber where he has resided until the time of his passing. He worked as a telephone lineman for AGT for nearly thirty years, retiring in 1987. Gerald enjoyed stock car racing, camping, traveling and working in museums, he was especially fond of the Scandia Museum. He was member of the Taber Lions Club for many years. Gerald and Dolores were also campground hosts at the M.D. Park for three years. Above all, Gerald loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.
