GWEN WILK

1934 - 2013

Gwenllian Sarah Wilk, beloved wife, wonderful mother, caring grandmother and great grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the age of 78 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, August 15, 2013 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday, August 16, 2013 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Wade Steed conducting. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Gwen was born in Taber on August 22, 1934, the second eldest of six children. She married Frank Wilk on August 19, 1957. Frank and Gwen had four sons, Ron, Rick, Roger and Reg whom they spent numerous hours with camping, fishing, and watching baseball, hockey and soccer. Gwen spent her working years as a retail clerk, at both Pat’s Groceteria and Quill’s Stationers. She also kept the books for Frank’s trucking and tire businesses. Gwen loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren who have fond memories of times with Grandma. Gwen had a passion for hockey and was a fanatical fan of the Calgary Flames.
Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ronald (Beverly) Wilk of Taber, Richard Wilk of Taber, Roger (Julie) Wilk of Calgary and Reginald Wilk (Tracey Jones) of Taber; grandchildren Sarah (Cody) Fletcher, Krystle Wilk, Catherine (Tyler) Turcato, Amanda Wilk and Taylor Wilk and great grandchildren Gracelynn and Piper Fletcher. She is also survived by her sisters Phyllis (Henry) Lewicki and Jane (Eric) Oxley; brothers Bill (Bev) Firth, Gary (Diane) Firth and sister-in-law Hugette Firth. She is also survived by Frank’s brothers and sisters, Andrew Wilk, Jean (Dale) Merriman, Bill (Carol) Wilk, Ken (Siné) Wilk and Ella Wilk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband Frank Wilk, her parents Christopher and Catherine Firth; in-laws Peter and Mary Wilk; her brother Edward Firth; brother-in-law John Wilk and sister-in-law Rosemary Klemen.
