SIMON FEIST
1916 - 2000
Simon “Sam” Feist of Taber passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2000 at the age of 83 years.
Sam was born on December 31, 1916 on his father’s homestead 16 miles southeast of Burstall, Saskatchewan, the son of Valentine and Catherine Feist and twin brother of Phillip Feist.
Sam is survived by four children, Philip (Marion) Feist of Taber; Janet (Philip) Meier of Vauxhall, Alberta; Cam (Diane) Feist of Lethbridge, Alberta; Rhonda (Jim) Koester of Rockyford, Alberta; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Regina, Barbara, Lydia and Margaret. Sam was predeceased by his beloved wife Mildred and a daughter Patricia; two sisters, Rose and Dora; three brothers, Adam, Joe and his twin brother Phillip.
Sam farmed in Saskatchewan and Alberta all of his working life. He worked in various garages and was well known for his mechanical abilities. He was always willing to help a neighbor. Many Hays “kids” remember him as their bus driver. He enjoyed curling and was a Charter Member of the Hays Hall Board, Hays Lion’s Club and the Knights of Columbus. After five years of semi-retirement (and a lot of gardening) at Hays, Sam and Millie moved to Taber in 1989.
Sam loved to fish and hunt with his sons and grandchildren. Family was an important part of Sam’s life.
Sam and his twin brother Phillip married sisters and raised their families close together never farther than three miles apart. All of the family will remember him with a smile as he was always teasing or up to some prank. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him for the hardworking, kind, loving man that he was.
