GORDON SAUNDERS
1927 - 2001
Gordon Stanley Saunders, beloved husband of Alice Saunders of Taber, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 16, 2001 at the age of 74 years after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Alice of fifty three years; seven children, Thomas (Wendy) Saunders of Calgary, Marilynne (David) MacDonald of Calgary, Michael (April) Saunders of Taber, Cynthia Saunders of High River, Allyson (David) Cichy of Calgary, Greg (Karina) Saunders of Taber and Ruthanne (Ken) Holst of Calgary; twenty nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a brother Reg (Jarmila) Saunders and a sister Shirley Andrews. He was predeceased by a son, Gordon, and his parents, J. Gordon and Lola Saunders.
Gordon loved his family and grandchildren. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including that of a Bishop. He was actively involved in the community serving in various community and professional organizations. Gordon enjoyed golfing and competitive pistol shooting.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, November 19, 2001 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. and also prior to the funeral service in the Relief Society Room of the church from 11:30 A.M. to 12:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Bruce Francis officiating. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
