ANA KALVI
1919 - 2012
Ana Kalvi, beloved wife of the late Oswald Kalvi, passed away in Taber with her family by her side on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the age of 92 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Vincent TuanHa Celebrant. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Ana will be lovingly remembered by her son Anthony Kalvi and daughter Vera Kalvi both of Barnwell. She is also survived by sister-in-law Gizila Savi and cousin Marica Speranza both of Banovac, Yugoslavia. She was a “special aunt” to Aloyz and Ernest Savi of Windsor, Ontario, Albert and Josephine Kalvi of Lethbridge, Rozie White of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ivanka Orzes of Taber, Helen Taylor of Calgary and their families. She will be fondly remembered by her God children Ann Merkle and John Horvath and also by numerous nieces and nephews throughout Croatia and Mexico.
She was predeceased by her husband Oswald Kalvi; daughter Mary Kalvi; parents Dominic and Roza Savi; brother Marko Savi; sister Lizika and brother-in-law Josip Ajhner.
Ana was born in Velki Banovac, Yugoslavia on August 1, 1919. She immigrated to Canada in 1938 to follow her husband Oswald. They worked in the sugar beet fields for awhile until going to Halifax, Nova Scotia seeking better employment. A few years later, the smog and dampness took its toll and the family moved back and purchased a small farm north east of Barnwell. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years and enjoyed her garden and flowers.
