Lloyde was born December 16, 1945 in Lethbridge to his name sake, the late David Lloyd Palmer and his mother Kathleen (nee Matthews) Bullinger. His father was born in England and his mother was born in Nemiskam, Alberta.
Lloyde was raised on a ranch in the Warner area until he was nine years old. His family bought a farm in the Travers area where he attended school until its closure. He then attended school in Enchant. Lloyde started welding at the age of twelve. He became employed by Western Metal Fabricators though which he received his First Class Journeyman Certificate and in 1967 won the Horton Steel Award for the highest marks in his class at LCC. In 1968 Lloyde married Thelma Varhaug. They built their home in 1969 where they raised their three children and in 1975 he got his B Pressure Ticket and started his own welding business, D.L.P. Welding.
In 1978 Lloyde signed up for flying lessons. He owned his own plane and later had a landing strip on their farm, hence the name "Plane Meadows". He married the love of his life, Celia Carlsen on January 14, 1989.
Lloyde was also a licensed Auctioneer, taught welding at LCC for three years at night while working all day at D.L.P. Welding and somehow still had time to fit his farming in. He had a love for farming and his many animals, especially his weenie dogs who were his prize babies. He loved water skiing, snowmobiling and whatever he chose to do, he did with passion.
Lloyde was employed with Lethbridge Transit from April 1997 until his retirement in February 2011. He had a favorite spot to visit, which was their “home away from home” in Lake Havasu City. He was a real people person and touched the lives of many.
In Lloyde’s own words he said "I do miss my passengers that I got to know by name and their stops. My final thing I want to say is don't shut my bus off yet".
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Lloyde’s name may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 204, 2323 - 32 Avenue NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 6Z3.
