HISAYE KUNIMOTO

1918 - 2012

Hisaye Kunimoto beloved wife of the late Shinyuki Kunimoto, passed away peacefully, in her home, in Taber on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the age of 93 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, February 3, 2012 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
A private family service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 4, 2012 with Reverend Yasuo Izumi officiating. Burial will follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Hisaye is survived by her son Bruce (Terry) Kunimoto of Taber and their four children, Dawn (Ryan) Farries of Alliston, Ontario and family Nathaniel and Wyatt, Leisa (Tom) Carney of Medicine Hat and family Tianna, Marieka and Elias, Tamara Kunimoto of Bonnyville and Erin Kunimoto of St. Catharines, Ontario; daughter Eileen Kunimoto of Taber; son Ross (Sandré) Kunimoto and their two children Shane Kunimoto and Amber Kunimoto all of Calgary; son Bob Kunimoto of Ottawa and his two children Kimberley Kunimoto of Montreal and Kaitlin Kunimoto of Ottawa; son Dennis (Sheri Samuels) Kunimoto and their two children Brenden Kunimoto and Danika Kunimoto all of Edmonton; daughter Jodene Kunimoto of Calgary. She is also survived by her older brother Takaki (Hajime) Shigemi of Taber; sister-in-law Toshino Shigemi of Lethbridge.
She was predeceased by her husband Shinyuki Kunimoto; younger brothers Masaji and George Shigemi. She always said she would be the next to pass away, going from youngest to oldest.
Hisaye was born on July 17, 1918 in Hazelmere, British Columbia. She was the second child of Otsujiro and Sayo Shigemi. When Hisaye was young, her family moved to Whonnock, British Columbia where she formed many friendships through school and many games of baseball. She went to Picture Butte where she met Shinyuki Kunimoto and married him in 1946. They moved to Broxburn, Fincastle, and Taber. She loved gardening, sewing and cooking. She won first prize, a trip to Toronto, in a Star Weekly cooking contest. Hisaye later worked at Hostess in the lab. After retiring, she took up fishing, walking, crafts and bowling where she made many long lasting friendships. She was a hard worker at whatever task she tackled and loved a challenge.
