Hellen was born February 20, 1924 in Chauvin, the eldest child of William and Florence Dey. She grew up on the family farm and completed her schooling in Chauvin. Hellen worked in the Chauvin area as a babysitter/housekeeper until she went to Banff to work as a waitress at the King Edward Hotel. It was there she met Art, whom she married on November 12, 1951. They settled in Innisfail where their two sons, Harvey and Bruce were born. Hellen was a tireless volunteer with the Red Cross and Women’s Institute while in Innisfail. The family moved to Bow Island in 1967 and she continued her volunteer work. She was a founding member of the WI and Hospital Auxilliary. Hellen was a member of the UCW and canvassed for many other organizations. She was a loving Grandma, who always had homemade cookies, a smile and lots of hugs. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Hellen enjoyed watching hockey and any sports or activities her grandchildren were involved in. Her garden was always abundant and her flowers brought her much enjoyment. Art and Hellen enjoyed camping and travelling to visit family in the summer and they spent many winters in the Arizona area. She was a kind hearted, gentle soul, who saw the good in everyone and who will missed by all who knew her.
