PHEOBE CURRENT

1912 - 2011

Pheobe Estella Alberta Current, beloved wife of the late Howard Current, passed away in Red Deer on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the age of 99 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Sandra Riddell officiating. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Pheobe is survived by her daughters Edna (Rodney) Foster of Lethbridge and Dianne (Tom) Barca of Red Deer; grandchildren Scott Borthwick of Lethbridge, Shari (Garett) Chatters of Lethbridge and Justin Barca of Red Deer; great granddaughter Ava Chatters of Lethbridge.
She was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Ted; eight brothers Allen, John James, Walter, Alfred, William, Sam, and twins John and Hugh Egan; three sisters Mary Knox, Evelyn Lavenne and Margaret Tillotson; one son-in-law Denis Borthwick.
Pheobe was born July 29, 1912 on the family farm north of Bow Island, the youngest of twelve children of Allen and Margaret Egan. She married Ted Current on December 20, 1941 in Medicine Hat. Ted and Pheobe settled in Vauxhall and farmed in the area until 1952 when Ted obtained employment with the PFRA, where he served as a ditchrider for twenty one years. After Ted’s retirement they lived in Vauxhall for a few years before moving to Taber. Following Ted’s passing in 1988 Pheobe continued to live in Taber, moving to Pioneer Place in 1994. In 2004 she moved to Red Deer and resided in Pines Lodge Supportive Living until her passing. While living in Vauxhall, Pheobe was active in Parkview United Church and the Vauxhall Seniors, where she is an honorary member. After moving to Taber, Pheobe enjoyed bowling and volunteered at the Taber Extended Care.
Mom was an avid gardener, canning and freezing to make sure we always had plenty of winter stores. She was a great cook who could make a delicious meal out of anything when company arrived unannounced. We will always remember her fresh bread. There was never a shortage of pies or desserts around our home either. Through the years Mom also loved to sew and crochet.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Pheobe’s name may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Pines Lodge Supportive Living for the care given to Mom while she resided there and also many thanks to Dr. Peter Mah for his kind, gentle, and respectful care to the end.
