KATHLEEN REARDON
1916 - 2001
Kathleen Margaret Reardon (nee Murphy) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Edward Reardon, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at the age of 84 years.
Kathleen was born October 2, 1916 in Palmer, Saskatchewan, the youngest of seven children of James Murphy and Beatrice (Wells) Murphy. At the age of two, both of her parents and a sister died of the Spanish Influenza of 1918. This had a profound effect on her life. She was raised south of Fort Macleod by her maternal grandparents George and Catherine Wells. She attended school in Fort Macleod and later graduated from Garbutt’s Business College in Lethbridge. During the war she worked at the Fort Macleod Airport and at this time met and later married Ed Reardon on November 4, 1941. Eddie and Kathleen were married for fifty two years. In 1959 the family moved to Lethbridge where Kathleen enjoyed working as secretary at Catholic Central High School until her retirement in 1981. After Ed’s passing in November of 1993 she met Paul Smith who became her special companion. Besides each other’s company they enjoyed dancing, fishing and bowling together. She remained in her own home until February, 2000 and since last June has been a resident of Edith Cavell Care Centre.
She loved family gatherings, socializing, her home and garden and to her grandchildren will always be remembered as a “spunky, vivacious Nana”. She was an active member of her Church and maintained great faith all her life.
She will be forever remembered and remain in the hearts of her daughter Patricia (Denis) Protti of Victoria, British Columbia; sons Terry (Judy) Reardon of Taber and Dan Reardon of Calgary; daughter-in-law Janet Reardon of Calgary; grandchildren Chris Protti and wife Michelle Dudar, Carmen (Jim) McDonald and Danielle (Dave) Epp, Nikki, Chad and Tyler Reardon, Erin and Colin Reardon, Sean, Dylan and Riley Reardon; sister-in-law Kay Murphy of Fort Macleod; devoted companion Paul Smith of Lethbridge and also by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Kathleen will be met in Heaven by her husband Ed; son Jay (October, 2000); parents James and Beatrice; brothers Jim, Charlie, Martin and John; sisters Rose and infant Kathleen.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2405 - 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Joe Walsh and Reverend Howard Keon Con-celebrants. Interment followed at the Mountain View Cemetery.
