MARY SORGARD

1935 - 2001

Mary Sorgard, beloved wife of Elton Sorgard of Taber, passed away in the presence of her family and after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the age of 65 years.
Mary was born the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Brezovski on September 20, 1935 in Sunnybrook, Alberta. She came to Taber in 1940 and attended school at the Reliance School. At the age of eight her father purchased the family farm at Fincastle. She met and later married Elton Sorgard on August 1, 1953. They moved around the Province where work took them, always returning to Taber. Mary worked at the Taber Hospital for twenty years where she was known for her kind caring nature to the elderly patients. She loved to sing and was a member of the Parkside Choralaires and a member of Knox U.C.W. Friendship Unit. Mary was always available to volunteer time for Meals On Wheels or any service that required help. In her spare time she loved to tend her garden and flowers. Mary was a pillar of strength and supported her family at all times.
Mary will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her husband Elton; daughter Linda (Bob) West of Taber; sons Roy Sorgard (fiance Klara and her daughter Jennifer) of Taber and Monte (Ingrid) of Taber; grandchildren Jeremy West, Dalyce Sorgard, Jessica Sorgard and Hunter Sorgard; sisters Margaret (Bob) Sparks and Betty Pinter; brothers John Brezovski, Frank (Rose) Brezovski and Joe (Mary) Brezovski; a sister-in-law Margaret Brezovski Racz as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Tony Brezovski, sister-in-law Edith Brezovski and brother-in-law Steve Pinter.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel,5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, February 15, 2001 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, February 16, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
