It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our dearly beloved Ruth. Ruth was born in Taber, Alberta on June 13, 1913 to Esther and Linvil Rash. She was raised on a farm south of Purple Springs. At the age of sixteen she began a sewing career that would span more than seventy years. At the age of ninety she ended her professional sewing projects. While raising four boys she always found the time to help others. Mom was an active volunteer in the community. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society for sixty-three years and was recognized for having the longest consecutive years in volunteer service with their organization. She also volunteered for the Burdett Community Cemetery for many years. Ruth was a long time member of the Burdett Women’s Institute, Canadian Red Cross, Royal Purple of Canada, Burdett United Church Women and the 4-H, where she taught many young girls how to sew. One highlight of Ruth’s life was when she was honoured as Citizen of the Year for Burdett. This spoke volumes of how the community, her friends and family felt about her.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Burdett United Church, Burdett on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Sandra McMillan officiating. A private family Interment will follow at the Burdett Community Cemetery.
