HOPE FONG

1917 - 2002

Yeu Ho (Hope) Fong, beloved wife of the late George How Fong, passed away in Taber on Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the age of 85 years.
Hope was born in Toi Shan, China on January 21, 1917. She was raised there and married George Fong in 1934. George had travelled to China from Lethbridge. After the Chinese Exclusion Act was revised, Hope and their son Gerald came to Canada in 1949 reuniting with her husband who was previously residing there. Hope was a full time parent and was always available for her children and family. Hope was also a great support for her husband George who was involved in various business ventures and volunteer activities. Hope enjoyed her family and grandchildren and looked forward to special occasions and family gatherings. She loved her garden. Her creativity also found expression in crafts, cooking, baking, knitting, and sewing. She resided at the Clearview Lodge in Taber where despite a language barrier, she greatly enjoyed the companionship and friendship of many people. Hope’s life was led in love, kindness, generosity and character. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Her sweet and gentle spirit will be forever cherished in the hearts of her children Gerald Fong, Patricia (Daniel) Fong Johns, Joseph Fong ( Lynn), Margaret Fong; her grandchildren, Rachel, Kiran and Joel Fong.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, August 30, 2002 from 8:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at Clearview Lodge, 4730 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
