SHARON THURSTON
1943 - 1999
Sharon Lee Thurston (nee Halverson), beloved wife of Peter Thurston of Fernie, British Columbia, passed away in Fernie on Friday, July 9, 1999 at the age of 56 years.
Sharon was born in Calgary on April 28, 1943. She moved with her family to Vauxhall in 1953 where she attended school. In 1957 her family moved to Cranford and she attended school in Barnwell. Sharon married Peter Thurston on December 24, 1981 and for the past twenty years had resided in Fernie, British Columbia where Sharon and her daughter Penny ran their own cleaning business. She was an avid gardener and it was a treat to sit on her deck admiring all her beautiful flowers and watch the Humming Birds. She was a beautiful seamstress and always sewed the majority of her clothing. In earlier years, Sharon sewed outfits for the Rodeo Queen contestants in Taber but in later years when it came to sewing, her grandsons were at the top of the list.
Sharon was a real favorite of all her nieces and nephews and will greatly missed by all.
Besides her husband Peter, Sharon will leave to cherish her memory her two children Penny (Laurie) Godwin of Sparwood, British Columbia and Kevin (Donna) Christensen of Taber; two grandsons Danny and Dalton; mother Verna Halverson of Taber; brother Jim (Marion) Halverson of Taber; two sisters Yvonne (Vern) Dunn of High River and Colleen (Pete) Janzen of Vauxhall and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant son Jamie Delane in November 1974; father Ken Halverson; brothers Doug and Barry Halverson; brother-in-law Ken Havervold and niece Karla Havervold.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Yvonne Mills officiating. Interment followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
